I particularly liked the point that if you are actually good at SEO you wouldn't be trying to get client work, you would know enough to go out and just make money for yourself.

Thanks for the link I'll have that lol - PS Google's probably only counting that first link :) Cool show I enjoyed it - good advice.

I can't speak for everyone who blogs SEO but I can tell you why I do it referencing your point why do this and not make money :)

I'm obsessed, half dyslexic, very easy distracted, OCD, stay up all night, looking for "the answer" to a solution a lot of brainer folks than me keep shifting the goalposts on. Its the unsolvable puzzle, and it probably keeps me too distracted. Its this chase that got me involved in this dam thing in the first place. Mmmmm... maybe one day my obsession will change to actually making money .... lol

My biz partner pulls his hair out at me. Sure, we could just buy those links etc and move from client to client like some other seo lol companies - f*&^ if I wanted to do that, I'd just do black hat full time rather than screw some poor sod out his cash - We make money and I have a business @14 folks who work during the day when I am sleeping lol.

For me SEO is so cool. I love it.

But SEO is not just the answer for what I want to do.

I want to build a brand. Brand is more important than SEO.

If folks the other end of the world are talking about us. something is right.

As a result of what is in effect a brain dump for me where I look for discussion - the Hobo blog - we've never had to advertise ever. Thats kind of cool.

I also have a lot of friends online too now who share my interest.

Another thing - I like writing. And I like making stuff. I prefer to build links through content. It is however depressing to see sh$t links still beating me down in some areas.

One important thing to note with any SEO resource though - having the tools doesn't make you a carpenter. I've always had a theory - should I be worried about publishing my material so competitors can take advantage? Well, if my competitors are finding my stuff of use, they'll always be chasing me.

For me, deployment of SEO knowledge is the art - where to start - the opportunities to find, problems to identify.

Anyway, people who don't share stuff are w*nks - they are like the IT guy in the office who sits and doesnt tell you all you needed to do was switch the damn machine on and off again to get it working . :)

Thanks for the mention - very much appreciated. And the link :)

I cant believe how much I wrote here....
