More Endusers Buying Indian Domains
I made a guest post over at www.inforum.in a few days ago and Jeff asked if he could use it on the blog at IN Forum. Here is an extract from that post.
“About 6 months ago I made a list of about 500+ .co.in & .in domains that I was looking at registering.
I purchased about 100+ of the ones that I liked the best and left the rest for later or in this case other people.
One domain that I did not register was pvcpipes.in. A very good name, but I had others to deal with.
Well, checking back on it and others I see that quite a few of them have been registered by companies and NOT (as far as I can tell) by domainers.
The company that now owns pvcpipes.in is a manufacturer in India of you guessed it – PVC Pipes.
It is a trend that I think will get stronger as the Indian domain market gets more recognition from the Indian population.”

This may be for two major reasons.
1) The .in TLD still has plenty of good domain name potential. In other words, you can still get 2 or 3 word domain or register domains that are brandable.
2) The Indian IT sector is huge. For this reason, geo-targeting websites to get demographic traffic as opposed to niche traffic might just work in your favor.

I have noticed alot of .in traffic on the boards lately and I haven’t quite made a decision if they are becoming more popular or were simply overbought for a short burst. However I do think the best names are going to be worth a few nickels in a year or two which is why I’ve grabbed about 10 decent ones from auctions.
