What Do David Beckham & Domain Names have in Common?
Well for those of you who don’t follow English Football (or Soccer as we call it in Australia) Sydney FC (Sydney Football Club) has defeated LA Galaxy 5-3 in their friendly match at Telstra stadium in Sydney tonight in front of 83,000 fans.
It was a great match and David Beckham was in fine form with one of his trademark penalty goals.
So what does David Beckham have in common with domain names?
Well you would only have missed the Sydney.com domain name painted on the grass next to the goals if you were blind. Not to mention all the flashing and scrolling billboards along the edge of the pitch. I am not sure the numbers of the global audience, but it would had to have been in the tens of millions.
Now while all the other advertisers were displaying all sorts of hard to recall images, Sydney.com stood out the most and was the one that can had the easiest time remembering after the match. Easy just type in sydney.com in the address bar on my browser and hey presto, I’m there. The others I would have to do a fair bit of searching before I would find what I was looking for.
So as far as I am concerned it was a win for Sydney FC & a win for www.sydney.com
